Time for her first cocktail!

Fighting cancer begins today with her first "cocktail" of chemo. Not exactly the type of cocktail I am sure that she is wanting right now, but it's a step closer to the finish line. Right?!

In the last post I had written about how they had done a biopsy on my mom's right side as they had felt that they lymph nodes look abnormal. What everyone thought to be an irritated lymph node is actually a malignant lymph node. Dr. Liu, her surgeon, is 99% sure that the cancer is not traveling from the left side to the right side although, they are unable to find any tumor on the right side in the PET scan, MRI, or ultrasounds. We do know that another dye test will need to be done to see if there is another tumor in the right that is not detectable due to all the fibrous tissue. A centennial node surgery will need to be done to remove the cancerous lymph node now on the right side.

We tried to stay conservative with treatment but it appears we may have to bring out the big guns. Mom and Dr. Liu discussed the strong possibility of a double mastectomy to ensure we get this cured once and for all. This can be done after chemo and before radiation.
After taking 6, they had made the decision to take all of them. The doctor had concerns as they were not sure exactly what type of cancer they were finding on the other side. Speculation raised over it possibility being melanoma. You would never think that someone would be happy to find out that they "just had more breast cancer" but my mom sure was. We are glad that she does not have to tackle two different forms of cancer, instead, just two different types of breast cancer. This recovery was the hardest yet as she is still very sensitive from the spot that they removed the lymph nodes. But like a true Higle- she never lets it stop her.

Please keep her in your prayers today and this weekend to make sure she feels like a rockstar after this treatment.
